1. Learners Must Book Their Own Test
From 12 May 2026
Only the learner driver can:
book a test
change a booking
cancel a booking
Driving instructors and third-party cancellation apps will no longer be allowed to manage bookings on your behalf.
2. Booking Change Limit
Since 31 March 2026
You can only change a driving test booking twice.
After that, you must:
cancel the booking
rebook a new test
Cancelling too late could mean losing the test fee.
3. Test Centre Restrictions
From 9 June 2026
You can only move your test to:
the original test centre, or
one of the 3 nearest test centres
This is designed to stop people booking tests far away and moving them later.
4. CPR & Defibrillator Questions in Theory Tests
Rolling out during 2026
Theory tests will include questions about:
CPR
using a defibrillator (AED)
The DVSA says this is to improve public emergency response skills.
