1. Learners Must Book Their Own Test

From 12 May 2026

  • Only the learner driver can:

    • book a test

    • change a booking

    • cancel a booking

  • Driving instructors and third-party cancellation apps will no longer be allowed to manage bookings on your behalf.

2. Booking Change Limit

Since 31 March 2026

  • You can only change a driving test booking twice.

  • After that, you must:

    • cancel the booking

    • rebook a new test

  • Cancelling too late could mean losing the test fee.

3. Test Centre Restrictions

From 9 June 2026

  • You can only move your test to:

    • the original test centre, or

    • one of the 3 nearest test centres

  • This is designed to stop people booking tests far away and moving them later.

4. CPR & Defibrillator Questions in Theory Tests

Rolling out during 2026

  • Theory tests will include questions about:

    • CPR

    • using a defibrillator (AED)

  • The DVSA says this is to improve public emergency response skills.
